Conventional and diffusion-weighted MR imaging of cerebral aspergillosis.

چکیده
Central nervous system aspergillosis has increased dramatically in recent years. Most of the cases are immunocompromised patients infected from a primary site, usually the lungs or paranasal sinuses, and the organism may spread to the central nervous system. Different neuroimaging patterns that have been reported vary depending on the immunological status of the patients and on the age of the lesions. Description of typical radiological patterns in cerebral aspergillosis patients may be helpful in establishing early diagnosis and treatment. In this case report, we present magnetic resonance images of cerebral aspergillosis and the contribution of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging to the diagnosis.

Diffusion-Weighted MR Imaging in Biopsy-Proven Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease
OBJECTIVE To compare conventional and diffusion-weighted MR imaging in terms of their depiction of the abnormalities occurring in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the findings of conventional (T2-weighted and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery) and diffusion-weighted MR imaging in four patients with biopsy-proven Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. The sign...
متن کاملNeonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy: detection with diffusion-weighted MR imaging.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Although diffusion-weighted imaging has been shown to be highly sensitive in detecting acute cerebral infarction in adults, its use in detecting neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) has not been fully assessed. We examined the ability of this technique to detect cerebral changes of acute neonatal HIE in different brain locations. METHODS Fifteen MR examination...
متن کاملDiffusion-weighted MR imaging of global cerebral anoxia.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Diffuse cerebral anoxia is a devastating event, and its acute findings, as revealed by conventional MR imaging and CT scanning, may be subtle. We analyzed diffusion-weighted and conventional MR images of patients with diffuse cerebral anoxia to determine their usefulness in establishing the diagnosis during the acute period and in determining the age of insult. METHODS ...
متن کاملSWI: Probe for neuroradiologists
Susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) has continued to develop into a powerful clinical tool to visualize venous structures and iron in the brain and to study diverse pathologic conditions. It is a new art which evaluates and exploits the properties of blood, iron and other tissues. It is a magnitude or filtered phase images or combination of both, obtained with high-resolution 3D fully velocit...
متن کاملUse of diffusion-weighted MR imaging in differential diagnosis between intracerebral necrotic tumors and cerebral abscesses.
The differential diagnosis between intracerebral necrotic tumors and cerebral abscesses is frequently impossible with conventional MR imaging. We report two cases of cerebral abscesses that showed high signal on diffusion-weighted echo planar imaging and a strongly reduced apparent diffusion coefficient. This appearance was not present in our cases of necrotic/cystic gliomas (eight cases) and n...
